Octo8  |  Disaster Recovery

Disaster recovery,
sized to the business

Protect the minimum viable business, not a copy of everything.

Most disaster recovery is either missing or a costly replica of production. Octo8 identifies the services your organization must keep running while the rest is restored, designs recovery around them, and proves it works.

The common mistake

Two ways recovery goes wrong

The gap
No recovery at all
A second data center costs too much, so recovery is postponed. Backups exist, but nobody has proven the organization can run from them.
The replica
A copy of everything
Every server is duplicated just in case. Most of that capacity sits idle, and the cost crowds out the testing that would make it trustworthy.
The Octo8 design
The minimum viable business
Fast recovery for the services that must keep running, including what they depend on. A protected copy for everything else. Then a test.
How it works

The 4R Framework, applied to recovery

Phase 01
Rationalize
Sort services by what the business cannot run without. Map their dependencies: identity, network, databases.
Phase 02
Recover
Set a recovery target for each tier. You approve the minimum viable business before anything is sourced.
Phase 03
Repurpose
Redirect what a full replica would have cost into a right-sized recovery environment.
Phase 04
Realize Value
Run the recovery test. A plan counts only once it is proven, and it is re-tested as systems change.
What gets protected

All of your data is protected. Only critical services stand by.

Illustrative only. An organization with 200 servers and 500 TB might place 15 servers and 40 TB in Tier 1. Your tiers, sizes, and targets come from your own recovery design and are confirmed by test.

Matched to what you run

A recovery site that fits your production

HPE Private Cloud serves as a full recovery site: compute, platform, and storage, ready to run Tier 1 services. Replication is chosen to match what is already in production.

HPE in production
HPE Private Cloud as the recovery site
A matched platform keeps failover and failback simpler. HPE Zerto replicates virtual machines continuously to the recovery site.
NetApp in production
NetApp at the recovery site
SnapMirror replicates data from your production NetApp storage to the recovery site, with locked copies alongside.
Other platforms
Mixed environments
HPE Zerto replicates at the hypervisor level, independent of the hardware underneath, so mixed environments can recover onto HPE Private Cloud.

Replication methods and supported platforms are confirmed for each environment during recovery design.

What is included

From design to proven recovery

Recovery design

The 4R assessment, dependency map, tiers, and recovery targets. A defined engagement, and the basis for everything that follows.

Recovery environment

Subscriptions sized to the approved design, and a recovery site arranged: colocation or a second site you already have.

Testing and stewardship

An initial recovery test, periodic re-tests, and right-sizing at every renewal as your systems change.

Delivered on

HPE Private Cloud and NetApp

Octo8 designs and stewards. Our technology partners deliver, operate, and support the infrastructure under their own service commitments.

HPE Private Cloud

Runs the services that must keep running, on private infrastructure sited in a colocation facility or a location you choose.

HPE or NetApp storage

Holds the protected copies. Choose HPE storage or NetApp, based on what you already run and prefer.

Octo8

Designs the environment, sizes the subscriptions, runs the tests, and right-sizes at every renewal. No infrastructure on our books.
